Welcome to Our Family
Welcome to Our Family is a unique inter-generational program designed to involve children, parents and the local community into a discussion of the qualities that make a great family. Chosen as one of the child abuse prevention programs funded through the Lehigh County Office of Children and Youth, Welcome to Our Family provides children with a theatrical forum to identify positive character traits and altruistic behaviors that build strong families and combat child abuse in the home and community. And naturally, it’s all done through the power of puppetry!
Children participating in this program have the opportunity to explore family strengths through the visual and performing arts. In a series of four after-school workshops, students make puppets, scripts and portraits of family members as they create a puppet program for their families and members of the school or neighborhood community. Building layer upon layer of connections to the community, each program culminates in a family event that includes the children’s puppet performance and a group discussion on building strong families that are fair and nurturing to children.
