Field Trips
Mock Turtle is fortunate to have the beautiful Sand Island Park as a base for our educational field trip programs. The park features nature trails, a large playground, a picnic area and, of course, the Charles S. Brown Icehouse Performing Arts Center. Mock Turtle established its own 100 seat theater space in the IceHouse in 1996. Since that time Mock Turtle has used the facility to provide standards-based arts and educational field trip programs ranging in theme from cultural diversity to narrative writing.
Set between the Lehigh River and the Lehigh Delaware Canal, Sand Island Park, with its nature paths, the historic canal lock, and bike trails along the towpath, is only a five minute walk from downtown Bethlehem. As such, a trip to the IceHouse provides a direct link to all the historic attractions of Bethlehem, PA. Easy access from Rt. 378 makes a trip to Sand Island a great place to learn, hike and picnic.
“A delightful informative experience for the children. They barked, they crowed and had an all together wonderful time!” – Dr. Salaman Stackpole Elementary School
