Scouts
Mock Turtle Marionette Theater has worked with Girl Scouts, Brownies and Daisies of all sizes and descriptions for over thirty years. We have hosted Girls Scout Days in our IceHouse Theater, taken part in Girl Scout festivals and events and helped girls earn hundreds of badges. Both our theater and our scout troops have enjoyed a long and happy partnership.
Now, as the Girl Scouts move into their second centennial, we are working closely with scout leaders to adapt our program to fit new themes and programs. We will show you how to apply puppetry to school subjects, how to use puppets for community service and the ways older girls can to use puppetry as a teaching tool . And, we will work individually with scout leaders to create special puppet projects; projects that will help your girls use puppetry to “Discover, Connect and Take Action”.
Our two hour plus program is geared to meet most of the requirements of the various scout badges in theater and puppetry. The basic program includes the marionette show and the puppet-making workshop followed by a special back-stage tour and a workshop on presenting puppet shows. In addition, scout leaders receive a Mock Turtle “how to” for leading simple puppet performances. While all our programs for scouts revolve around this basic package, adjustments are made for different types of scouts.
Boy Scouts
Designed entirely to bring out the ham in your Cubs, our four-part puppetry workshop supplies the basic tools for earning the Be An Actor elective. There’s no showman like a puppeteer and probably no better way to earn the showman’s badge than through puppetry. Puppets are a great way to get guys on stage without all the self-consciousness.
But, Mock Turtle is more than marionettes, puppet lessons and projects. On Saturday mornings or by special arrangement, we become a fully rounded scouting experience. A visit to our IceHouse theater on Sand Island makes a perfect day trip including not only puppet shows and workshops but also a great hike along the historic canal or a romp in our Sand Island playground. And, there is plenty of room for picnics or even a walk to downtown Bethlehem.
